MLD-515 Moldflow: Multi-Material Molding

This intermediate course will expand the discussion of using injection molding simulation to more than just conventional injection molding, and will explore simulating different multi-material molding process. The class will cover how Autodesk Moldflow can be used to help optimize gate location and processing to improve the part quality for parts that will be over-molded using thermoplastic resins. The class will highlight the different results that become available, and how to set up components as part inserts that can influence the overall cycle time and part quality. The class will also highlight how simulation can be used to optimize mold and part designs of Two-Shot Sequential over-mold, to better understand how the adhesion and part shut-offs may be influenced through processing.  Finally, the class will highlight how to model any shifting of components in the mold (both part inserts and mold components) due to non-uniform flow in the mold. This information can be used to identify any potential fatigue issues in the mold, or thin wall sections created in a part that is more prone to part failure.

Class Topics Include:

  • Overmolding/Insert Molding
  • Two-Shot Sequential Over-molding (2K/3K)
  • Core Shift
