In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape for the transportation industry, the need for interoperability and compatibility has never been more important. This presentation delves into the concept of a software-agnostic approach, exploring perspectives from both project owners and consultants. This approach emphasizes the flexibility to work seamlessly across various software platforms without being bound to any single vendor or tool.
We will explore the relationship between owners who develop agnostic standards and consultants who implement them. Departments of Transportation and other Transportation Agencies are increasingly recognizing the importance of adopting a software-agnostic method to offer a more seamless integration of their standard requirements, particularly for 3D models. At the same time, consultants play a pivotal role in leveraging these agnostic standards to deliver projects tailored to their governing agency’s unique needs. One factor in the software-agnostic approach is the adoption of open standards such as the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) file format.
This presentation will highlight a real-world example to illustrate the practicality of IFC files on transportation projects. By understanding the needs, challenges, and opportunities from both owner and consultant perspectives, attendees will gain valuable insights into how to harness the power of agnostic standards to drive success and innovation in today's ever-changing technological landscape.
