The Architects Learning Path for BIM and Revit

With the construction industry moving headlong into the world of 3D, BIM, Virtual Reality (VR) and Cloud sharing, keeping up with the latest developments can be difficult.

The Architects Learning Path for BIM and Revit

There are many ways to pick up knowledge – industry publications, CPD certified training, online learning, etc. – but the best way is to get an industry expert to share their knowledge with you.

Attending a relevant training course and having the opportunity to pick the brains of an expert in the subject of interest, is by far the most efficient way of gaining knowledge and getting insight into the latest industry trends.

At Symetri, all our courses are aimed squarely at passing knowledge onto clients in a concise and efficient way. We’re often told by delegates that they have learnt topics during a course that they had previously wasted hours searching for online, with the cost associated with the wasted time adding up to more than the training course.

We run scheduled courses, private courses and bespoke workshops, which can be supported with e-Learning. All have their place depending on the client’s requirements. Scheduled courses are open to anyone, cover a standard range of topics and are approved by Autodesk. Private courses allow a standard course to be delivered for your own company. If you have several people needing training, a private course can prove cost-effective. Bespoke workshops allow you to create a tailored course to suit your exact needs, these are very good once you get past the basics as we can focus on specific subjects relevant to your project.

If you are new to the BIM world and need to get up to speed quickly there are several paths you can take:

For those needing to create projects in Revit the Revit Architecture Fundamentals course is the ideal starting place. This will take delegates who haven’t used Revit previously and run through the basic principles of modelling, detailing, creating schedules and publishing drawings. Following on from this, Revit Architecture Content Creation will give the knowledge required to create the custom components essential to every Revit project. Revit Architecture Conceptual Design and Visualisation will teach you how to use the early stage massing tools in Revit to give the most efficient workflow from concept to construction.

Going further, the Dynamo Fundamentals for Revit will give you an insight into computational design and how to create efficient workflows through automation with Dynamo scripting.

For those working on BIM projects then the BIM Fundamentals, Processes and Procedures will give invaluable knowledge in how to work with industry standards such as ISO 19650 and how that might apply to the workflows in Revit.

If you’re running projects and maybe aren’t hands-on creating models full time, the Autodesk Revit Architecture Experience course is a great introduction to understand the principles of using Revit and understanding the impact it can have on the design workflow. Autodesk Revit for Project Managers is slightly more advanced than the Experience course and looks at Coordination and Collaboration within the Revit environment.

Delivering BIM projects usually means collaborating with other consultants and brings a requirement for coordinated clash resolved models. The Autodesk Navisworks for Lead Designer course is ideal to quickly get to grips with the federation and clash detection of models.

On a different track, the Enscape (VR) - Training and Interactive Workshop is a great introduction to using Enscape alongside Revit for fast visuals and generating virtual reality environments from the Revit models. More traditional visualisation with 3DS Max is covered in depth with the 3DS Max Fundamentals training course.

Our training experts are happy to discuss a course in detail, and suggest topics and course duration to meet your specific needs. We frequently customise courses with bespoke topics or datasets, use customer specific templates or tailor the topics to suit project specific requirements. So, if one of our many standard courses doesn’t meet your exact requirements, get in touch because we will be able to fulfil your training requirements, no matter how bespoke.
